My Seven-day birthday celebration !!

In an effort to accept and make sense of this ageing matter, I had this sudden inspiration to embrace the fact the fact that I am turning 70 in this month of May...rather than to fear it or make it go away...and this after several years of not easily admitting to my 60-plus status!
The fact is that I feel so much younger.... healthy and with more energy and exuberance than a lot of younger people. I realised that there is no getting away from the years... thus why not go big... hence the week-long festivities.
I set about it by creating a Powerpoint invitation of several slides in which I set out the plans I had for doing pleasurable acitivities every day for a week...with which ever friends cared to join in. This was , more or less what my first page contained:

I took great pleasure in designing this page and writing the rhyme/verse playing with the words starting with S as in the heading  SASSY SENSUOUS AND A SHARP SEVENTY which is how I see myself... not for me the grey hair, the slight stoop and the outdated appearance...but above all not the out-of- touch older person who is technologically disabled and narrow in outlook!

On the following slides I set out plans like....a morning tea party at my house( for the older folk who are not working ) ... a Pyjamas and Popcorn evening with a movie for my cellgroup on the one evening...a movie and coffee outing one night - for those who share my interest in movies ( and did we enjoy "Far from the Madding Crowd"! This with three friends. There was also the Sunday with my little family at home with cake and champagne... and the joy of having two of my three grandchildren with me!    And then , of course , there was the highlight of all my events which was a good old-fashioned Soiree ( which for those who don't know) is an elegant get-together at a home with live music and a dinner. This was in the end held at a very close friend's house and as a gift she provided her lovely dining-room, most of the dinner  and the table decorations which had a vintage theme... her cook did the delicious meal and I  hired a professional saxaphone/clarinet/flute player to do the honours. We were 12 people and I must say they did me proud...
These are pictures of the place settings and the flowers:

On my actual birthday and after the six days of enjoyment seven friends and I went for a very fine breakfast at Nitida Wine farm near Durbanville where I simply loved the view of a dam , the vineyards in their autumn colours , the fynbos and the Boland mountains in the distance. I simply have to share these photos...

During this week on different occasions we enjoyed a scruptious Orange cake, Cream scones, A specially baked Chocolate cake and on the movie night out Lemon Merangue  ect. Good wines like Durbanville Hills Sauvignin Blanc and KWV Merlot as well as JC le Roux champagne was enjoyed.

The last photo was taken at the Pyjama party ...where we watched a Christian movie ate popcorn and then had chocolate cake and tea!
This was the most blessed and fun-filled birthday and I actually enjoyed reaching this milestone of birthdays.... here is an excerpt from my speech I made at the dinner on the night of the soiree. The title was Seventy years of a good life
..........And so now I am seventy and rather than fear old age I shall embrace the years to come. I will work on my bucket list en ek sal voluit lewe met Jesus aan die stuur ! Ek is dankbaar vir goeie gesondheid en ‘n lewensblye gees….. so watch this space!!

Hoe kry ek terugvoering oor wat ek skryf?

Dis 'n sopnat en koue dag in die Kaap- ek so pas terug van die pragtige Bishopsskool waar my kleinkind rugby gespeel het- ek in my dik rooi baadjie en rooi mus- hy kon my nie eintlik mis nie! Ja en nou is ek in my yskas van 'n huis, met 'n kombersie om my bene en 'n serp om my nek.... en ek wil so graag kommunikeer maar al die drade en konneksies is stil- te stil vir so 'n grys dag. Maar wag ,my lewe is mos 'n Fees en net ek kan dit so maak. So nou vir 'n lekker bekervol warm sjokolade, en weer my sëeninge tel!! Wan
