A little spirit...and a little soul
From Streams
in the Desert. 28 May
I will not let you go unless you bless me…”Then he
blessed him there.”Gen 32:26,29
Jacob won
the victory and the blessing here not by wrestling but by clinging.
We too will
not win the victory until we cease our struggling. We must give up our own will
and throw our arms around our Father’s neck in clinging faith.
It is not by
applying pressure or insisting upon our own will that brings victory. It is won
when humility and trust unite in saying “Not
my will, but yours be done”
I have noticed in my life , that if I leave God in control , then I need not worry so much...after all He knows what is best for me!!
Soul/Mind and positive living
Went to
listen to the motivational speaker, Elsabe Aldrich who with a lot of humour
packs a powerful message of being positive and living life with enthusiasm…also
about the benefits of laughter! Appparently even pseudo or fake laughter makes you feel much better… she suggested that instead of getting angry
with the taxi cutting in , .. rather laugh out loud !! Make light of it… much
better for you than anger.
Something totally different …for the lovers of books out there – have you ever
tried an audio book?? Well I listened , with fascination , to my first audio
book from the library…they are ususally read by people who haved studied drama
and read very well. The benefit for me is that my hands can be doing something while
I listen, like knitting or sewing or crocheting…nice way to catch up on
mending( does anyone still mend clothes these days? I remember my mom darning
socks over an old light bulb or a certain smooth kind of shell??) I think we
just buy new socks! Anyway I got to listen
to a book called Summer School by the
writer Rosa Domenico….who obviously knows Italy ,as the story was set in the
lovely Tuscany , near Sienna , where I had the good fortune to spend several
days in 2002. Andy McDowell was the
very skilled reader who got all the accents so right ..there were Scots, French
, American , British and of course Italian people in the story! I so enjoyed it so much – sometimes late at night lying in my warm bed - that I have now gone and taken
out two more books . Margeret Foster’s Isa
and May read by Susan
Jameson..apparently about the influence of grandmothers, and a book called “To
my Best Friends” by Sam Baker and read by Ros Stockwell.
Just realise
that it takes a certain kind of discipline to sit and listen to a story..we have become so visually orientated with
television and dvds but if you like radio , as I do, you will easily start
enjoying audio books. Of course I can also colour in – my other enjoyable
pastime, while I listen.
In
conclusion, I thought I would just share a picture of the Sienna area which is
so wonderfully described in the book I have just listened to. Until next time –
keep laughing….and listening...?
